Chapter 3. USING AGCat
About Cataloging Permissions
The specific cataloging functions you are allowed to perform within the database(s) for your library or consortium are based on the upload permissions granted to you by your Library or System Administrator. Your upload permissions determine the type of information you can upload to the database (bibliographic and/or holdings) and the libraries for which you can perform database maintenance (your library only, selected libraries or all libraries). You can use the Upload Permission feature to view your specific set of AGCat upload permissions. Additionally, the Status Bar at the bottom of the AGCat application window shows your upload permissions for the currently active record.
NOTE: You must be logged into RESEARCHit, SHAREit or VERSO in order to view your current upload permissions.
To view your upload permissions:
- From the View menu, select Upload Permission.
- The Upload Permission dialog displays. The Upload Permission dialog shows the set of upload permissions assigned to your user name.
- The Upload Permission dialog provides the following information:
- Bibliographic: Shows your permission for uploading bibliographic information to the database; either Yes (No restriction), No, by My library code or by Library codes (see Upload Permission Definitions for more information).
- Holding: Shows your permission for uploading holdings (locations) information to the database; either Yes (No restriction), No, by My library code or by Library codes (see Upload Permission Definitions for more information).
- My Library Code: Shows the library code under which you logged into the system.
- Save to Cart Type: Shows the currently selected download cart type; User Cart or Library Cart.
- Library Codes: Shows a list of the library codes for which you can upload bibliographic and/or holdings (locations) information when the Bibliographic and/or Holdings permission is set to by Library codes.
- When uploading a new or edited record to the database, AGCat treats the
bibliographic and holdings sections of the records separately. You may be
granted different permissions for uploading bibliographic information and
holdings (locations) information.
NOTE: If any bibliographic update permission is granted, a holding update permission will also be granted.
- The Rec upload field in the Status Bar at the bottom of the AGCat window shows your upload permissions for the currently active record.
- Separate values are shown for your bibliographic (Bib) and holdings (Hld) permissions for the record; either Yes or No. Additionally, the Yes/No values may be appended by the values L (for by library codes) or M (for by My library code) depending on your overall upload permissions.
