Deleting Text
Text in the body of a record can be deleted using the <Backspace> and <Delete> keys on the keyboard. Additionally, selected text, tags or subfields can be deleted using the following procedures.
To delete selected text:
NOTE: You can only select and delete text within a single subfield at any given time.
- Position the cursor immediately before the first character of the text you wish to delete.
- Click and hold the left mouse button, and drag across the text you
wish to delete.
- The selected text is highlighted.
- Press the Ctrl+X keys on the keyboard.
- The highlighted text is deleted from the record.
NOTE: To restore deleted text, right-click the subfield from which text was deleted and select Revert SubField from the shortcut menu, or, press the Ctrl+Z keys on the keyboard.
To delete a subfield:
- Place the cursor in the subfield you wish to delete.
- Right-click the selected subfield and choose Delete SubField from
the shortcut menu, or, press the Ctrl+Alt+r keys on the keyboard.
- The selected subfield is deleted from the record.
NOTE: To restore a deleted subfield, right-click the tag from which the subfield was deleted and select Revert Tag from the shortcut menu.
To delete a tag:
- Place the cursor in the tag you wish to delete.
- Right-click the selected tag and choose Delete Tag from the
shortcut menu, or, press the Ctrl+Alt+d keys on the keyboard.
- A confirmation dialog displays the message “You are about to delete MARC tag (tag number). Select ‘Delete’ to continue.”
- Click the Delete button on the confirmation dialog to complete the
deletion. (Click the Cancel button to close the confirmation dialog and
retain the field.)
- The confirmation dialog closes, the selected tag is deleted from the record, and the advisory message “MARC tag (tag number) deleted” shows briefly at the bottom of the screen.
NOTE: To restore the deleted tag, click Undo in the advisory message before the message expires.
