CIRCULATION ADMINISTRATION
Chapter 7. SETTING CIRCULATION PARAMETERS
"Individual" Checkout Limits
"Individual" checkout limits set the maximum number of items of a given material type that a patron can have "checked out" at any given time. Checkout limits may be established separately for each type of material borrowed by each class of user (patron category) for each library location.
In Example A, a checkout limit of "3" has been specified for material type Book for all patron categories. In this case, any library patron may have a maximum of three items of material type Book "checked out" concurrently. If a patron attempts to check out a fourth book, the "individual" checkout limit on Book will cause the Over Checkout Limit warning to display.
In Example B, a checkout limit of "3" has been specified for material type Book for all patron categories except LIMITED (LTD), which has been assigned a checkout limit of "2". In this case, library patrons assigned to any patron category except LIMITED (LTD) may have a maximum of three items of material type Book "checked out" concurrently; patrons assigned to the LIMITED (LTD) category are limited to a maximum of two items of material type Book. If a patron assigned to any patron category except Unregistered Patron attempts to check out a third book, the "individual" checkout limit on Book will cause the Over Checkout Limit warning to display; for LIMITED (LTD) patrons, the warning is invoked on the third book.
