Merging Material Types

You can combine two individual material types into a single material type by merging the contents of one type into another.

To merge material types:

  1. image of Merge Material Types ScreenOn the Material Types screen, click the Merge Types button.
    • The Merge Material Types screen displays in an additional browser window.
  2. Select the material type you wish to merge into another category from the Edit items with Material Type drop-down menu.

    The Edit Items with Material Type menu lists all material types currently defined for your library.

  3. Select the material type into which you wish to merge the previously selected category from the Change to Material Type drop-down menu.

    The Change to Material Type menu lists all material types currently defined for your library.

  4. Click the Submit button on the Merge Material Types screen to merge the selected material types. (Click the Close button to close the Merge Material Types screen without merging the selected material types.)

    Be sure to select the material types you wish to merge in the correct order. Items of the material type selected in the Edit items with Material Type menu will be re-identified as the material type selected in the Change to Material Type menu.

    • The Material Types screen refreshes to reflect your changes.

If the “merged” material type (selected from the Edit items with Material Type menu) will no longer be used by your library, set the status for the material type to “inactive” (see Adding a Material Type for details).
