Merging Patron Categories

You can combine two individual patron categories into a single patron category by merging the patrons from one category into another.

To merge patron categories:

  1. image of Merge Patron Categories ScreenOn the Patron Categories screen, click the Merge Categories button.

    If your library is a member of a consortium or collective that utilizes a “shared patron database,” a warning dialog displays the message “Warning: This list is used by all libraries. Adding, merging or editing the name will affect all other member libraries. Do you want to continue?” Click the OK button to continue editing the Patron Category. Click the Cancel button to cancel the operation and return to the Patron Categories screen.

    • The Merge Patron Categories screen displays in an additional browser window.
  2. Select the patron category you wish to merge into another category from the Edit patrons with Category drop-down menu.

    The Edit patrons with Category menu lists all patron categories currently defined for your library.

  3. Select the patron category into which you wish to merge the previously selected category from the Change to Patron Category drop-down menu.

    The Change to Patron Category menu lists all patron categories currently defined for your library.

  4. Click the Submit button on the Merge Patron Categories screen to merge the selected categories.

    Be sure to select the patron categories you wish to merge in the correct order. Patrons in the category selected from the Edit patrons with Category menu will be re-identified as patrons of the category selected from the Change to Patron Category menu.
