Navigating by Tab Key
Screens in the Search module support “tab key navigation.” This allows you to move the cursor to a “selectable” field on an active screen without using the mouse.
To use “tab key navigation:”
- Press the <Tab> key to step in sequence through the selectable
fields (text boxes, drop-down menus, etc.), links and buttons on the current
screen.
- The active field, link or button (the field, link or button on which the cursor is currently positioned) is highlighted or emphasized to aid in visually identifying cursor location.
- To select an active link, press the <Enter> key.
- To actuate an active button or icon, press the <Enter> key.
- To select or deselect a checkbox, press the <spacebar>.
- To toggle a radio button selection, use the <up> and <down> or <left> and <right> arrow keys.
- Use the keyboard to enter text in a text field. When all desired content has been entered, press the tab key to move to the next available field, link or button.
- To select an option from a drop-down menu:
- With the desired menu active, use the “up” and “down” arrow keys to scroll the menu options.
- When the desired option is active, press the <Tab> key to select the option and move to the next available field, link or button.
