Editing a Bib Record

You can edit an existing bibliographic record in your library’s main database.

To open and edit a single existing bib record:

  1. On an active search results list (see Viewing the Search Results List for details), click the Menu icon Menu Icon for the desired title; or, on the Manage Items screen (see Managing Items for details), click the Menu icon Menu Icon.
    • A menu of available options displays.
  2. Select Edit Bib Record.
    • The AGEdit MARC Editor launches and opens the MARC record for the selected title to allow for editing (see the AGEdit MARC Editor User Guide for procedures to add and edit bibliographic records).
  3. When the record has been edited and saved, click the browser’s “Back” button to return to the Catalog Maintenance screen.
    • If your changes have not been saved, an advisory dialog displays the message “You have unsaved changes. Do you want to continue?”
      • Click the Cancel button to return to the AGEdit MARC Editor and save your changes.
      • Click the OK button to discard your changes and return to the Catalog Maintenance screen.

To open and edit multiple existing bib records:

NOTE: You may open a maximum of five bib records in AGEdit simultaneously.

  1. On an active search results list (see Viewing the Search Results List for details), use the checkboxes to select the titles for which your with to edit the bib record.
    • A checkmark checkmark indicates the associated title is selected.
    • An empty checkbox checkbox indicates the associated title is not selected.
    • Clicking a checkbox repeatedly will toggle it on and off.
    • NOTE: Once you have selected five titles, you are prohibited from selecting additional titles.
  2. Click the Open in AGEdit button.
    • The AGEdit MARC Editor launches and opens the MARC records for the selected titles to allow for editing (see the AGEdit MARC Editor User Guide for procedures to add and edit bibliographic records).
  3. When each record has been edited and saved, click the browser’s “Back” button to return to the previous search results list.
    • If your changes for one or more titles have not been saved, an advisory dialog displays the message “Unsaved Changes – The following records can be saved,” and lists the records containing unsaved changes.
      • Click the Cancel button to return to the AGEdit MARC Editor and save or discard your changes on a record-by-record basis.
      • Click the Save button to save your changes for all listed records and return to the Catalog Maintenance screen.
      • Click the Discard button to discard your changes for all listed records and return to the Catalog Maintenance screen.
