Viewing and Deleting URL Checker Reports

You can view the results for any Completed report on-screen. You can also download a copy of the report for viewing using Microsoft Excel. Completed reports or reports that are currently Scheduled to Run may also be deleted, if desired. Additionally, the system will automatically delete reports that are older than 90 days.

To view report results on-screen:

  1. From the URL (856) Checker screen (see Using the URL (856) Checker for details), click the File Name of the report for which you wish to view results. Be sure to select the File Name with the .html extension.
    • The report results screen displays in an additional browser window.

  • Link to record –the A-G Control Number for the record containing the URL
  • Title/URL – the title (from MARC Tag 245) and URL (from MARC Tag 856 $u)
  • Message – a message indicating the failure encountered during validation of the URL
  • Bibliographic records have tag 856 $u – the total number of records in your library’s A-G database(s) that contain at least one MARC Tag 856 $u
  • URLs (856 $u) found – the total number of URLs found in all MARC Tags 856 $u
  • URLs are valid – the total number of URLs successfully validated by the URL (856) Checker
  • URLs are not valid/no response – the total number of URLs that were not successfully validated or for which no response was received
  1. Click a Link to record link to view the Full Record Display for the record containing the URL.
    • The screen refreshes to show the Full Record Display for the selected record.
    • Use the browser’s Back button to return to the report results screen.

To view report results in Microsoft Excel:

  1. From the URL (856) Checker screen (see Using the URL (856) Checker for details), click the File Name of the report for which you wish to view results. Be sure to select the File Name with the .xls extension.
  2. Follow the standard procedures for your web browser to download the report file.
  3. Locate and open the downloaded report file using Microsoft Excel or other suitable spreadsheet application.
