Chapter 3. SEARCHING
Adding a Sort Order Qualifier
The Sort Order qualifier lets you determine the order in which your search results will be sorted.
NOTE: The Sort Order qualifier is always applied to your library’s Union catalog(s) and is applied to reference databases that support sorting. If a reference database does not support the selected sort order, results are displayed according to the default sort order.
To add a Sort Order qualifier:
NOTE: Your library may specify a maximum results sort value between 1,000 and 20,000 results. Depending on the maximum results sort value specified and the number of results returned by your search, the search results may be unsorted.
- Select the order in which you wish search results to be sorted from the
Sort Order menu.
- You may select to sort search results by Relevance, Title Ascending, Title Descending, Date Ascending, Date Descending, Author Ascending or Author Descending.
- When you perform a search of an A-G database by Title, and select Relevance as the sort order, titles that are an exact match to your search term are shown at the beginning of the search results list.
NOTE: If desired, you can use the Your Preferences function to set a default sort order for your account (see Your Preferences for details). However, the Sort Order selection will override your default sort order selection. Additionally, once a sort order has been selected from the Sort Order menu, the new sort order will be used for all Quick Searches and Advanced Searches until a new sort order is selected.
