About Block Types
There are two block types that can be registered against a patron’s account; “soft” and “hard” (see the Circulation User Guide for additional information).
- “Soft” Block – When a “soft” block is registered against a patron’s
account using the Add Patron Block function:
- The text of the block message (along with the date on which the block was applied and the name of the staff member who applied the block) is appended to any existing text in the Messages field in the patron’s User Record.
- The block message is shown on the Patron Warning Screen when the patron’s account is accessed through Patron Status & Checkout.
- The patron’s circulation privileges are unaffected (items may be checked out, renewed, and reserved)
- “Hard” Block – When a “hard” block is registered against a patron’s
account using the Add Patron Block function:
- The Blocked checkbox in the patron’s User Record is selected and the text of the block message (along with the date on which the block was applied and the name of the staff member who applied the block) is added to the Block Reason field in the patron’s User Record.
- The block message is shown on the Patron Warning Screen when the patron’s account is accessed through Patron Status & Checkout.
- The patron’s circulation privileges are suspended (items may not be checked out, renewed, or reserved)
