Chapter 5. PATRON RESERVES

Special Considerations for Overdrive Items

NOTE: Overdrive is a digital media service offered by some libraries and may not be implemented for all systems.

NOTE: You must have an email address saved to your user account to place a hold for an Overdrive item.

To place a “reserve” for an Overdrive item:

  1. From a Brief Browse List, click the Hold icon for the title you wish to borrow,
    or,
from a Full Record Display for the title you wish to borrow, click the Place Hold button.
  2. If you have an email address saved to your user account:
    • The message “Hold placed successfully” shows briefly at the top of the screen.
    • A “hold notification” message is sent to the email address saved to your user account.
  3. If you do not have an email address saved to your user account:
    • An advisory dialog displays the message “Email Address is required for this feature. Click the button below to update your profile.”
      • To continue with the reserve request, click the Add Email Address button to use the Your Profile function to add an email address to your user record (see Editing Your Personal Information for details), then repeat steps 1 and 2 to place the reserve.
      • To cancel the reserve request, click the Close link to close the advisory dialog.

NOTE: You can use the Your Items – Items on Hold feature in Your Account to view a list of your current reserves. You can also add or edit Reserve Notes, and delete reserves. See Viewing Your Items for details.
