Adding and Deleting Subfields
To insert a subfield:
- Position the cursor in the location at which you wish to insert the new subfield.
- Select Subfield from the Insert menu, or click the Insert Subfield button
on the Toolbar, then type the subfield code you wish to enter.
- If you attempt to insert an invalid subfield, the Invalid Subfield dialog displays the message "Subfield (subfield code) in field (number) is not allowed!", followed by a list of valid subfields for the tag. If you attempt to insert a non-repeatable subfield into a field where the subfield currently exists, the Invalid Subfield dialog displays the message " Subfield (subfield code) in field (number) is (not repeatable / not repeatable)!", followed by a list of valid subfields for the tag. Select the desired option from those presented:

- Return to correct the error - Returns to the currently active record to allow you to correct the error.
- Override validation - Overrides validation for the current Insert command only, and inserts the subfield into the record.
- Undo insert subfield - Cancels insertion of the new subfield.
To overwrite a subfield code:
- Position the cursor in front of the subfield code you wish to overwrite, then type the new subfield code.
To delete a subfield code:
In order to delete a subfield code, the entire subfield must be deleted. You may delete a subfield using either of the following methods:
- Position the cursor in front of the subfield code for the subfield you wish
to delete, then press the <Delete> key on the keyboard.
- A confirmation dialog displays the message "Do you want to delete whole subfield?" Click the Yes button to delete the subfield. (Click the No button to cancel the deletion and return to the currently active record.)
- • Position the cursor immediately after the subfield code for the subfield
you wish to delete, then press the <Backspace> key on the keyboard.
- A confirmation dialog displays the message "Do you want to delete whole subfield?" Click the Yes button to delete the subfield. (Click the No button to cancel the deletion and return to the currently active record.)
