Chapter 2. MATERIAL TYPES AND ITEM CATEGORIES
Managing Material Types
To access Material Types:
- From the Circ Admin menu, select Material Types.
- The Material Types screen displays.
- The Material Types screen lists the currently established material types for your library, and provides the following information for each material type:
Seq - the display sequence for the material type in Material Type menus throughout the system
Label - the name of the material type
Default Cost – the default cost applied to items of the associated material type when no cost is specified in the item record
Active - indicates whether or not the associated material type is currently active (shown in Material Type menus throughout the system); either Yes (the associated material type is active) or No (the associated material type is not active)
Hide - indicates whether or not the associated material type is hidden when viewing Location information or Item Status in the Search module; either Yes (material type is not shown when viewing Location information or Item Status) or No (material type is shown when viewing Location information or Item Status)
Suppress - indicates whether or not display of items of the associated material type are returned in search results lists in the VERSO Search module; either Yes (items of the material type are not returned in search results) or No (items of the material type are returned in search results)
Magnetic Media - indicates whether or not the associated material type is magnetic media (DVD, video, audio cassette, etc.); either Yes (items of the material type are magnetic media) or No (items of the material type are not magnetic media)
Float? - indicates whether or not items of a designated collection of the associated material type are allowed to “float” between branches (see About Floating Collections for an overview of “floating collections”)NOTE: The Float? field is shown only if your library or consortium has enabled the optional floating collections functionality.
No Reserve? - indicates whether or not reserves may be placed on items of the associated material type; either Yes (reserves may not be placed on items of the material type) or No (reserves may be placed on items of the material type)Active Alerts - indicates whether or not items of the associated material type are included in Active Alerts; either Yes (receipt of new items of the material type are included in Active Alerts) or No (receipt of new items of the material type are not included in Active Alerts).
NOTE: The Active Alerts field is shown only if your library or consortium has enabled the optional Active Alerts functionality.
- If desired, you can reconfigure, sort and filter table content (see the System Basics User Guide for details).
- From the Material Types screen, you may:
- Set the display sequence for material types (see Setting the Material Type Display Sequence for details)
- View material type statistics (see Viewing Material Type Statistics for details)
- Add a new material type (see Adding a Material Type for details)
- Modify an existing material type (see Editing Material Types for details)
- Merge two material types into a single material type (see Merging Material Types for details)
- Print a copy of the Material Type list (see Printing Circulation Parameters for details)
- Save a copy of the Material Type list to your local workstation (see Saving Circulation Parameters for details)
- Email a copy of the Material Type list to yourself or to another party (see Emailing Circulation Parameters for details)
