Material Types and Item Categories - Overview
Item material type names are assigned to item records to specify the material type (format) of the associated items. The system is pre-configured with a default set of material types. The Material Types function allows you to create and maintain additional material types to suit the needs of your library.
Item Categories are intended for use in associating related items, such as a “Recommended Reading” list or list of “Special Research Resources.” Item Categories are assigned to item records through the CAT Administration module (see the CAT Administration User Guide for details).
