Chapter 6. WORKING WITH RESERVES
Converting a “Soft” Reserve to a “Hard” Reserve
When an item for which one or more active “soft” reserves are present is checked in and your library has not enabled the Automatically assign reserve to next patron in line option through Circulation Options (see the Circulation Administration User Guide for more information), you can convert any currently active soft reserve for the item to a "hard" reserve from the Check In Screen, and transfer the item to a Reserve Location.
NOTE: “Soft” reserves are generally processed in the order in which they were received.
To convert a “soft” reserve to a “hard” reserve:
- When an item currently on loan for which “soft” reserves have been placed is checked in, the Item Check In screen shows the Outstanding Reserve Requests for this Title field.
- The Outstanding Reserve Requests for this Title field lists all “soft” reserves currently placed against the title. Each line in the listing shows the Reserve # (the patron's "place in line" if multiple "soft" reserves are placed against the title), the Patron Name and Patron Barcode of the patron for whom the reserve was placed, the patron's Phone number (if included in the patron's record), the patron Category of which the associated patron is a member, the Pickup Location designated when the reserve was placed, the Volume number of the item for which the reserved was placed, and the Date Placed.
-
If your library has not enabled the Automatically assign reserve to next
patron in line option through Circulation Options (see the
Circulation
Administration User Guide for more information), click the Reserve for Checkout
link for the desired patron to convert the “soft” reserve to a “hard” reserve.
- The Reserve Title for Checkout screen for the selected patron displays.
NOTE: If your library has enabled the Automatically assign reserve to next patron in line option through Circulation Options, the Reserve Title for Checkout screen for the next patron in line displays automatically following check in.
- The Reserve Title for Checkout screen shows the Patron name, Email address and Phone number of the patron for whom the reserve is being placed; the Title and Author for the item, and the Current Location and Pickup Location for the item.
- The message “This item is successfully reserved for checkout” displays.
- If desired, click the Print link to print a receipt for the reserve transaction, or, click the Email link to email reserve notification to the patron.
- Click the Close button to close the Reserve Title for Checkout screen and return to the Item Checkin screen.
