Chapter 6. WORKING WITH RESERVES
Adding a "Hard" Reserve
You may place a "hard" reserve against any available item in your library's catalog.
To add a "hard" reserve to an item:
-
Access the Patron Checkout, Status & Reserves screen for the desired
patron (see
Viewing Patron Status for details).
NOTE: If warnings are currently placed against the patron (patron is nearing expiration date, patron has overdue items, etc.), the Patron Warning Screen displays (see Viewing the Patron Warning Screen for details).
NOTE: If the patrons borrowing privileges are currently blocked (either manually or by system-imposed “hard” blocks), the message “You cannot continue with this patron” displays. The condition causing the “block” must be rectified before checkout can continue. Depending on the specific reason that the patron is blocked, you can optionally override the block to continue with the checkout (see Viewing the Patron Warning Screen for details).
- Click the Checkout tab to view the Checkout page of the Patron Status, Checkout & Reserves screen. The Items Checked Out On field on the Patron Status, Checkout & Reserves screen shows the items currently checked out to the patron on the current calendar date, along with all items for which a “hard” reserve has been placed for the patron. Each line in the listing provides the following information:
- No. - The “sequence” number of the checkout, indicating the order in which checkout transactions were processed.
- Title - The title of the currently checked out item.
- For items for which a “hard” reserve has been placed that have not yet been checked out to the patron, the Title is preceded by the notation “[Reserved].” In cases where the “hard” reserve has expired, the Title is preceded by the notation “[Reserved Expired].”
- Author - The author of the associated item.
- Barcode - The barcode assigned to the associated item.
- Call No. - The call number assigned to the associated item.
- Due Date - The date on which the associated item is due for return to the library.
- For items for which a “hard” reserve has been placed that have not yet been checked out to the patron, the Due Date field shows a CheckOut button.
- Expire Date - The date on which the reserve will expire.
- Patron Note – any patron note included with a reserve request
- Staff Reserve Note – any staff note included with a reserve request
