Defining Status Information
The item status terms returned by an OCLC WorldCat site may differ from those used by your library or consortium. The Define Status Information field lets you map the status values returned by an OCLC WorldCat site to the status terms used by your library or consortium.
The Define Status Information field is located at the bottom of the OCLC WorldCat Database Definition screen.
When defining status information for an OCLC WorldCat target, the Availability for ILL feature lets you specify those status values that indicate a title/item is currently available for Interlibrary Loan. When one or more Availability for ILL checkboxes are selected, and an ILL request is due to be forwarded to the associated institution, the system checks the current status of the title/item. If the current status of the requested title/item is equal to a selected status value, the request is forwarded to the institution. If the current status of the requested title/item is not equal to a selected status value, the institution is skipped (marked for retry), and the request is forwarded to the next lender.
NOTE: If all Availability for ILL checkboxes are unselected, the status check is not performed, and the ILL Request is forwarded to the associated institution.
To define status information:
NOTE: The Availability for ILL feature is optional, and may not be enabled for all libraries.
- In the Define Status Information field, enter the status value retrieved from the OCLC WorldCat site in the first Source Value(s) text box, then enter the associated status value used by your library in the associated Display Label text box.
- For example, if the OCLC WorldCat site uses the value "Checked In" to indicate an item is available for checkout, and your library uses the status value "Available", enter Checked In in the Source Value(s) text box and Available in the Display Label text box.
- For OCLC WorldCat sites that return status values containing both fixed content and variable data, use the “*” wildcard character in place of the variable data. For example, if a site returns a status value of “DUE: 3-10-10,” where “DUE:” is fixed content and “3-10-10” is variable data (representing the due date for an item), enter DUE: * in the Source Value(s) text box.
NOTE: If all available Source Value(s)/Display Label text boxes have been used, and you wish to map additional item status values, click the Submit button to refresh the screen; the system will display four additional Source Value(s)/Display Label text boxes. Once your changes have been submitted, Status Information is displayed in alphabetic order, by Source Value(s).
- Select the Availability for ILL checkbox for each status
value that indicates a title/item is currently available for
Interlibrary Loan.
- A checkmark indicates titles/items with the associated status value are currently available for Interlibrary Loan.
- An empty checkbox indicates titles/items with the associated status value are not currently available for Interlibrary Loan.
- Clicking a checkbox repeatedly will toggle it on and off.
To delete status information:
- To delete an existing Source Value(s)/Display Label pair
from the Define Status Information field, click the Delete
icon
to the left
of the values you wish to delete.
- A confirmation dialog displays the message "Do you want to delete (Source Value)?"
- Click the OK button to delete status information. (Click the
Cancel button to leave status information intact.)
- The Site Definition screen refreshes to display your changes.
