Renewing a Loan

If your library has enabled the “Patron Self-Renewal” feature, you can renew the loan for a currently checked out item from the Items Out screen.

To renew a loan:

  1. Select Your Items – Items Out from the Your Account menu (see Using Your Account for details).
    • The Items Out screen displays. The total number of items currently checked out to your account (excluding “lost” or “claimed returned” items) is shown at the top of the screen (see Viewing Lost Items for more information).

  1. To renew the loan period for one or more items:
    • Click the Renew Item button for the desired item.

      NOTE: The Renew Item button is not shown for 3rd party e-content that is not renewable in VERSO (such as titles checked out through Hoopla and OverDrive).

      • The confirmation message “Item renewed” shows briefly at the top of the screen.
      • The Status field for the item updates to show the number of times the item has been renewed and the number of renewals remaining (e.g., Renewed: 1 of 5).

      NOTE: If the renewal limit for an item has been reached, or if there are active “soft” reserves against an item and your library does not allow patron self-renewal for items on reserve, the Renew Item button for the item is not available.

  2. To renew the loan period for all items:
    • Click the Renew All button.

      NOTE: The Renew All button is not shown when the Items Out list includes 3rd party e-content that is not renewable in VERSO (such as titles checked out through Hoopla and OverDrive).

      • A confirmation dialog shows the total number of items checked out to your account (Total Out), the total number of items for which the loan period was renewed (Total Renewed) and the total number of items for which renewal was not allowed (Total not renewed). Click the OK button to close the dialog and return to the Items Out screen.
      • The status fields for all renewed items update to show the number of times the item has been renewed and the number of renewals remaining (e.g., Renewed: 1 of 5).

      NOTE: If the renewal limit for an item has been reached, or if there are active “soft” reserves against an item and your library does not allow patron self-renewal for items on reserve, the loan period for such items are not renewed.

  3. To exit the Items Out screen, select another option from the Your Account menu, or, click the Home button Home button in the Your Account menu to return to your library’s “Home” page.
