Modifying Patron Status & Checkout Detailed Permissions
When you grant a user Patron Status & Checkout permissions (see Modifying Circulation Permissions for details), the user is granted limited access to Circulation features and functions by default. If desired, you can configure the specific set of features and functions available to the user when accessing the Patron Checkout, Status & Reserves screen.
To modify Patron Status & Checkout Detailed Permissions:

On the Circulation Permissions screen, click the Patron Status & Checkout
Detailed Permissions link.
- The Edit Circulation Permissions screen displays. The screen shows a listing of specific features and functions available from the Patron Checkout, Status & Reserves screen.
- Permissions granted to the current user are indicated by a checkmark next to the permission name.
- Use the checkboxes associated with each function to grant or deny access to
the function.
- A checkmark indicates the user is granted the associated permission.
- An empty checkbox indicates the user is denied the associated permission.
- Clicking a checkbox repeatedly will toggle it on and off.
- Click the Check/Uncheck All link to select or de-select the checkboxes for all functions, as appropriate.
- Use the definitions below to determine whether a permission should be granted or denied for a given user.
NOTE: If changes to circulation detailed permissions are made for a currently logged in user, the user must log out and log back in for the changes to take effect.
Permission | Definition |
Edit Patron Record | Allows the user to edit the patron record and apply blocks for the currently selected patron. If this permission is denied, the Patron Edit button and Apply Patron Block button are not available on the Patron Checkout, Status & Reserves screen. |
Allow Access to Fines and Fees Screen | Allows the user to access the Fines and Fees screen for the currently selected patron. |
View Fines History | Allows the user to view fines history for the currently selected patron. If this permission is denied, the Payments/Fines History button is not available on the Patron Checkout, Status & Reserves screen. |
Items Out Declare Lost | Allows the user to declare an item checked out to the currently selected patron as "lost." If this permission is denied, the Lost buttons are not available on the Items Out page of the Patron Checkout, Status & Reserves screen. |
Items Out - Declare Claimed Returned | Allows the user to declare an item checked out to the currently selected patron as "claimed returned." If this permission is denied, the Claim Returned buttons are not available on the Items Out page of the Patron Checkout, Status & Reserves screen. |
Items Out Renew | Allows the user to renew the loan period for an item checked out to the currently selected patron. If this permission is denied, the Renew buttons are not available on the Items Out page of the Patron Checkout, Status & Reserves screen. |
Patron History View Previously Checked Out |
Allows the user to view previously checked out items for the currently
selected patron through the Patron History page. If this permission is
denied, the PREVIOUSLY CHECKED OUT field is not shown on
the Patron History page of the Patron Checkout, Status & Reserves screen.
NOTE: The PREVIOUSLY CHECKED OUT field is available only if your library has enabled Show previously checked out items through Circulation Options (available through the Circulation Administration module) and the currently selected patron has authorized Show previously checked out items functionality. |
Add People to Household Records | Allows the user to add patrons to the Household page for the currently selected patron. If this permission is denied, the Add to Household button is not available on the Household page of the Patron Checkout, Status & Reserves screen. |
Notes Add/Edit User Notes | Allows the user to add, edit or delete Notes for the currently selected patron. If this permission is denied, text shown on the Notes page of the Patron Checkout, Status & Reserves screen is "read only." |
Fines/Fees Process Payments, Credits | Allows the user to assess fees and process payments and credits for the currently selected patron. If this permission is denied, the Transaction Type, Transaction Type and Comments fields and the Submit button on the Payments/Fines History screen are grayed out (not functional). |
Reserves Change Pickup Location | Allows the user to change the Pickup Location for a currently active "soft" reserve from the Reserves page of the Patron Checkout, Status & Reserves screen. If this permission is denied, the Pickup Location menus on the Reserves page of the Patron Checkout, Status & Reserves screen are grayed out (not functional). |
Reserves Edit Reserve Notes | Allows the user to add or edit Notes for a currently active "soft" reserve from the Reserves page of the Patron Checkout, Status & Reserves screen. If this permission is denied, the Notes Add/Edit buttons are not available on the Reserves page of the Patron Checkout, Status & Reserves screen. |
Reserves Suspend Reserves | Allows the user to suspend reserves for the currently selected patron. If this permission is denied, the Suspend Reserves button on the Reserves page of the Patron Checkout, Status & Reserves screen is not available. |
Reserves Change Reserve Queue Sequence | Allows the user to update the Reserve # sequence on a Reserve List. |
Reserves Delete Reserves | Allows the user to delete a current "soft" reserve for an item from the Reserves page of the Patron Checkout, Status & Reserves screen. If this permission is denied, the Patron Edit button is not available on the Patron Checkout, Status & Reserves screen. |
- When all desired functions have been selected, click the Submit button to submit your changes to Patron Status & Checkout Detailed Permissions.
