Chapter 2. MANAGING USERS
Patron Groups
VERSO provides two options for “classifying” library patrons: Patron Categories and Patron Groups.
- The Patron Groups function allows for classification of library patrons based on a defined commonality appropriate to your library. For example: K-12 school libraries may wish to define patron groups based on student’s home room assignments; corporate libraries may wish to define patron groups based on department affiliation. Patron Groups may also be managed through the Circulation Administration module (see the Circulation Administration User Guide for more information).
NOTE: The Patron Categories function allows for broad classification of your library's patrons (Staff, Student, Juvenile, etc.). See Patron Categories for details.
To access patron groups:

From the User Admin menu, select Patron Groups.
- The Patron Groups screen displays.
Patron Groups Screen
- The Patron Groups screen lists all currently defined patron groups for your library by Group name; shows the current Active status for each group listed, either Yes (the associated patron group is active) or No (the associated patron group is not active); and whether library Staff and/or Patron user types may be assigned to the associated group, either Yes (the associated user type can be assigned to the group) or No (the associated user type cannot be assigned to the group).
- If desired, you can reconfigure, sort and filter table content (see the System Basics User Guide for details).
- From the Patron Groups screen, you may select to:
- Set the display sequence for patron groups (see Setting the Patron Group Display Sequence for details)
- View patron group statistics (see Viewing Patron Group Statistics for details)
- Add a new patron group (see Adding a Patron Group for details)
- Edit an existing patron group (see Editing Patron Groups for details)
- Merge two patron groups into a single patron group (see Merging Patron Groups for details)
- Print a copy of the Patron Groups list (see Printing Patron Category/Group Parameters for details)
- Save a copy of the Patron Groups list to your local workstation (see Saving Patron Category/Group Parameters for details)
- Email a copy of the Patron Groups list to yourself or to another party (see Emailing Patron Category/Group Parameters for details)
