Chapter 6. WORKING WITH RESERVES
Deleting “Soft” Reserves
You may delete “soft” reserves from any item to which they are applied. You may choose to:
- Delete “soft” reserves for a title
- Delete “soft” reserves for a patron
To delete “soft” reserves for a title:

From the Circulation menu (see
The Circulation Menu for
details), select Reserves – View by Title.
- The View Reserves - Title Search screen displays.
- Enter the title or barcode of the item for which you wish to delete
reserves in the Enter Title or Barcode text box.
- When entering a barcode, enter the complete barcode.
- When entering a title, you may enter a complete or partial title.
NOTE: When entering a partial title, do not skip words. For example, when searching for "Gone with the Wind", you may enter "gone with" as your search term; you may not enter "gone wind".
- Click the Submit button.
- If you entered a title, a list of titles matching your search criteria displays.
- Click the desired Title link to display a list of items for the selected title.
- Click the Select this Item link for the desired title to display the View Reserve List screen for the selected title.
- If you entered a barcode, the View Reserve List screen for the associated title displays.
NOTE: Optionally, select Reserves – View All Reserves from the Circulation Staff Menu to view a list of all titles for which “soft” reserves are currently placed, then click the View Reserves button for a title to display the View Reserve List screen for the associated title (see Viewing Reserves for additional information).

The View Reserve List screen shows the Title, Author and
Call Number for the title, and shows a listing of all reserves
placed against the item, in chronological order by Date Placed, from
the earliest to the most recent. Each line in the listing shows the Reserve
#, the Patron Name and Patron Barcode of the patron for whom
the reserve was placed, the patron’s Phone number, the patron
Category of which the associated patron is a member, the patron’s Home
Location, the Pickup Location for the item, the Volume
number for the item (if appropriate), and the date on which the reserve was
placed (Date Placed).
- The Patron Barcode serves as a link to the Patron Status, Checkout & Reserves screen for the Patron.

Click the Remove link for the reserve you wish to delete. (Click the
Close
button to cancel the deletion and return to the Delete Reserves - Title Search
screen.)
- The View Reserve List screen refreshes, with the selected reserve removed from the list.
- Repeat step 5 to delete additional reserves for the current title.
- When all desired reserves for the current title have been deleted, click the Close button to close the View Reserve List screen.
- Repeat steps 1 through 5 to delete reserves for additional titles.
To delete “soft” reserves for a patron:
- Access the Patron Checkout, Status & Reserves screen for the desired patron (see Viewing Patron Status for details).
- Click the Reserves tab to display the Reserves page. The Reserves page of the Patron Status, Checkout & Reserves screen shows the items currently placed on “soft” reserve for the associated patron. Each line in the listing provides the following information:
- Title - The title of the item for which the reserve was placed.
- Author - The author of the title for which the reserve was placed.
- Volume - The Volume number for the item (if appropriate).
- Pickup location - The location from which the reserved item, when available for checkout, may be picked up.
- The Pickup location field provides a menu of all pickup locations defined for your system. Pickup locations are defined through the Circulation Administration module (see the Circulation Administration User Guide for details).
- Reserve Order - When more than one reserve has been placed for a title, shows the current patron’s “place in line.”
- Hold Date - The date on which the reserve was placed for the current patron.
- If the reserve has expired, the Hold Date field includes a link that shows the date and time at which the reserve expired. If desired, you can “reactivate” an expired reserve (see Reactivating an Expired Reserve for details).
- Expiry Date – the date on which the reserve will expire
- Patron Note – any patron note included with a reserve request
- Item Barcode – the item barcode of the item for which the reserve was placed (for “item level” reserves only)
- Staff Note – any staff note included with a reserve request
- Notes – allows library staff to add or edit reserve notes (see Working with Reserve Notes for details).
- In the Reserves column, click the Delete button for the reserve you wish
to delete.
- A confirmation dialog displays the message “Are you sure you wish to delete (title)?”
- Click the OK button on the confirmation dialog to continue with the
deletion. (Click the Cancel button to cancel the deletion and return to
the Reserves page.)
- The Reserves page refreshes with the selected reserve removed from the list.
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 to delete additional reserves for the current patron.
