Chapter 2. CHECK OUT AND CHECK IN
Viewing the Patron Warning Screen
The Patron Warning screen is displayed in a “popup” dialog when warnings have been issued against a patron (patron is nearing expiration date, patron has overdue items, etc.) and the patron is accessed during circulation activities (check-out, check-in, viewing status, placing reserves, etc.).
NOTE: You may also view the Patron Warning screen at any time by clicking the Warnings tab at the top of the Patron Checkout, Status & Reserves screen.
The Patron Warning screen may include some or all of the following information fields:
- You entered barcode (barcode), which is inactive. You were directed to replacement barcode (barcode). – Displays when an expired, superseded or replaced barcode for an active patron is entered and the system has redirected to the current record for the patron.
- You have items that are reserved for checkout - Shows the total number of items currently reserved for checkout by the patron.
- Patron has items overdue - Shows the total number of overdue items held by the patron, the number of days by which the Oldest item is overdue, and the total amount of Accrued Fines on overdue items.
- Patron is blocked - Displays when the Blocked option in the patron’s User
Record is set to Yes; this field is followed by the text entered in the
Blocked
Reason field in the patron’s User Record.
NOTE: When this field is active, the message “You cannot continue Checkout for this patron” displays at the top of the Patron Warning screen.
- Blocked Household Members - Displays when a “hard block” has been registered against one or more household members associated with the current patron.
- Patron Account is disabled - Displays when the Account Status option in the patron’s User record is set to Disable.
- Warning...Borrowing privileges will expire on - Shows the calendar date on which borrowing privileges for the patron will expire. The number of days required to trigger this warning is set by your Library Administrator (see the Circulation Administration User Guide for details).
- Borrowing privileges expired on - Shows the calendar date on which borrowing
privileges for the patron expired.
NOTE: When this field is active, the message “You cannot continue Checkout for this patron” displays at the top of the Patron Warning screen.
- Outstanding Fine Balance - Shows the total outstanding balance of assessed
fines and fees for the current patron.
NOTE: If the patron’s outstanding fine balance exceeds the Hard Block Fine Limit established by your Library Administrator (see the Circulation Administration User Guide for details), the message “You cannot continue Checkout for this patron” displays at the top of the Patron Warning screen.
- The Patron Warning screen also includes any text entered in the Message field in the patron’s User Record.
