Chapter 1. INTRODUCTION

   

 


Organization of the User Guide

This User Guide is designed to provide an overview of the features and functions of CAT Administration, and includes the detailed procedures to maintain locations for your library within the union catalog. The User Guide is divided into eight chapters, as follows:

Chapter 1 – INTRODUCTION. This chapter explains how to prepare to use CAT Administration. The chapter includes hardware/software requirements, system availability, and system Login and Logoff.

Chapter 2 – REPORTS. This chapter provides the procedures to generate, view and download the MARC Tag Report and Authority Heading Report.

Chapter 3 – MANAGING LOCAL COVER IMAGES. This chapter provides the procedures to add and delete local cover images.

Chapter 4 – MARC IMPORT AND EXPORT. This chapter provides the procedures for importing MARC records into your library’s database, and exporting MARC records from your library’s database.

Chapter 5 – DOWNLOADING RECORDS. This chapter provides the procedures to download records from the union database to your computer for local use.

Chapter 6 – MANAGING INVENTORY. This chapter provides the procedures to inventory your library’s holdings either through online barcode entry or by uploading an inventory file.

Chapter 7 – PRINTING LABELS AND BARCODES. This chapter provides the procedures to print spine, pocket, and barcode labels.

Chapter 8 – CATALOGING FUNCTIONS. This chapter provides the procedures to use Catalog functions to add and edit bibliographic and item records, and to use the MARC Definition Editor to manage the content of the MARC Definition Tree in the AGEdit MARC Editor.

Chapter 9 - CUSTOMER SUPERUSER. This chapter provides the procedures to perform Global Search and Replace operations.
