AGCAT CLIENT
Chapter 3. USING AGCat
Creating Copy Cataloging
You can use source records from your library’s union database, or from any other bibliographic database that can be accessed through RESEARCHit, SHAREit or VERSO, for copy cataloging. You can use AGCat to make any desired changes to the record content and once finished, you can save the record to your library’s union database, where it will be recognized as a new record and assigned an AGCN.
To create copy cataloging:
- In RESEARCHit, SHAREit or VERSO, access the Full Record Display for the record you wish to copy.
- Click the Edit Bib Record button (on the MARC Display tab of the Full
Record) or select Edit Bib Record from the Staff Function menu to open the
record in AGCat (see Starting AGCat for details).
- The selected record displays in an Editor window.
- For source records obtained from your library’s union database, the record
retains its original AGCN when opened. You must select Create Copy from the
File
menu (or click the Create Copy button
in the Toolbar) to create a copy of the
record for copy cataloging.
NOTE: If you do not create a copy of the record, the ORIGINAL record will be updated when you save the record to the database.
- For source records obtained from databases other than your library’s union database, the record is automatically opened without an AGCN. It is not necessary to create a copy of the record prior to editing.
- Edit bibliographic content and holdings information as desired (see Editing Existing Records for details).
- When you are finished editing the record, you may save it to your library’s union database, or to a local or network drive (see Saving Records for details).
