Working with Reserves - Overview

The Reserve functions let you reserve materials requested by patrons, view a list of reserves for a specific title, and view a list of reserves for all titles, view lists of patrons with suspended or expired reserves, view a list of all mediated reserves, view a list of all reserves for which copies are currently available, and delete unwanted reserves. Multiple reserves may be placed against a single item. Multiple reserves are numbered sequentially, from the earliest to the most recent. The system provides the ability to place both “soft” reserves and “hard” reserves:

When a title on which a reserve has been placed is checked in, a message displays on the Check-In screen, and information for the patron that placed the reserve is shown. Additionally, if a patron attempts to check out a title that is on reserve for another patron, a message displays on the Check-Out Warnings/Fees screen. At the discretion of library staff, items on “soft” reserve may be checked out to the current patron, or may be retained for the patron who placed the reserve. For items on ‘hard’ reserve, the current checkout transaction must be cancelled.

Information on reserves placed is also provided on the Patron Checkout, Status & Reserves screen (see Viewing Patron Status for details).

If a patron record is deleted, any pending “soft” reserves placed for that patron are automatically deleted from the system. Patrons with current “hard” reserves cannot be deleted.
