Chapter 5. KIDS CATALOG ADMINISTRATION
Defining Kids Catalog Records
The Define Records feature lets you enable or disable the Kid’ Catalog for your system, and configure the results obtained through the Search feature of the Kids Catalog to be limited by Scoping, Material Type and/or Subject.
NOTE: You must log out and back in to the system to view changes made to Kids Catalog options using the Define Records function.
To define Kids Catalog records:

From the PAC Admin menu (see
The PAC Admin Menu for details),
select Kids’ Catalog Admin – Define Records.
- The Define Kids Catalog Records screen displays.
- Use the Enable Kids’ Catalog checkbox to enable or disable the Kids
Catalog for your system.
- A checkmark indicates the Kids Catalog is enabled.
- An empty checkbox indicates the Kids Catalog is not enabled.
- Clicking the checkbox repeatedly will toggle it on and off.
- Use the Search Term, Indexes, Qualifiers – Scoping
and Qualifiers – Material Type checkboxes to select the parameters by
which you wish to limit search results.
- A checkmark indicates search results will be limited by the associated parameter.
- An empty checkbox indicates search results will not be limited by the associated parameter.
- Clicking a checkbox repeatedly will toggle it on and off.
- If the Search Term checkbox is selected, enter the term to
which you wish to limit search results in the Use the following term to
limit all Kids’ Catalog searches text box.
NOTE: When a search is submitted through the Kids Catalog, the system will return only those records matching the specified term.
- If you do not wish to limit the search results by search term, leave the Use the following term to limit all Kids’ Catalog searches text box blank, or, deselect the Search Term checkbox.
- If the Indexes –Intended Audience (MARC Tag 08/22) checkbox is
selected, use the individual index checkboxes to select the “target
audience(s)” to which you wish to limit search results.
NOTE: The system uses MARC Tag 008 byte 22 (Target Audience) to limit search results to only those designated for Juvenile, Preschool, Primary, Pre-adolescent and/or Adolescent readers, as selected.
- A checkmark indicates items for the associated target audience will be included in search results.
- An empty checkbox indicates items for the associated target audience will not be included in search results.
- Clicking a checkbox repeatedly will toggle it on and off.
- If you do not wish to limit the search results by material type, leave all individual index checkboxes unselected, or, deselect the Indexes –Intended Audience (MARC Tag 08/22) checkbox.
- If the Qualifiers – Scoping checkbox is selected, use the Scoping Level
menu to limit search results to a specified subset of locations within your
system.
- The Scoping Level menu lists all scoping levels defined for your library (see Chapter 2, SCOPING for details).
- If you do not wish to limit the search to a specified Scoping Level, select All Libraries from the Scoping Level menu, or, deselect the Qualifiers – Scoping checkbox.
- If the Qualifiers – Material Type checkbox is selected, use the
individual
material type checkboxes to select the material types to which you wish to limit
search results.
NOTE: The Material Types field includes checkboxes for all currently active material types defined for your library through the Circulation Administration module (see the Circulation Administration User Guide for details).
- A checkmark indicates items of the associated material type will be included in search results.
- An empty checkbox indicates items of the associated material type will not be included in search results.
- Clicking a checkbox repeatedly will toggle it on and off.
- If you do not wish to limit the search results by material type, leave all individual material type checkboxes unselected, or, deselect the Qualifiers – Material Type checkbox.
- When all desired values have been entered, click the Submit button to save your changes.
