Scoping - Overview

For library consortiums or collectives which share a common main catalog database, PAC Administration’s scoping features allow library patrons to broaden or narrow the scope of their search to specified subsets (scoping levels) of the database. Scoping is also used to establish location groups, which are used to subdivide locations for a title into specific sub groupings. Locations, and display groups, are shown on the Full Record Display.

Proper planning is essential to ensure effective use of PAC Administration’s scoping features. You must determine the additional scoping levels you wish to offer, the libraries you wish to be members of each scoping level, the location display groups you wish to create, and the libraries you wish to be members of each display group.
