Chapter 4. WORKING WITH PAGES AND WIDGETS
Showcase Carousel
The Showcase Carousel Component lets you add a “scrolling” carousel of book jackets for titles returned by a preconfigured “advanced” search. You can create a "search query" using the logical (Boolean) functions 'And', 'Or', and 'Not', with up to three keyword combinations, across multiple search headings. When a patron clicks an item in the carousel, the system displays the Full Record for the associated item.
NOTE: The Total Records Found field shows the total number of records that will be returned by your search. In cases where the search configured for the carousel returns more than 120 results, only the first 120 results returned are included in the carousel.
To add a new Showcase Carousel component:
-
On
the Page Settings screen for the desired page (see
Creating and Editing Pages
for more information) or the Widget Settings screen for the desired
widget (see
Working with Widgets for details), select Showcase
Carousel from the Select Component menu for the desired page block.
- The Showcase Carousel Component page displays.
- If desired, enter a title for the Showcase Carousel in the Title
text box.
NOTE: The Showcase Carousel Title is optional.
- If desired, use the Title Background Color color picker to select the desired background color for the Showcase Carousel Title (see Using the Color Picker for details).
- Use the Auto Play checkbox to enable or disable “auto play”
functionality for the Showcase Carousel.
NOTE: Auto play functionality is enabled by default.
- A checkmark indicates “auto play” is enabled and the carousel will scroll automatically every few seconds, one title at a time.
- An empty checkbox indicates “auto play” is disabled and the user must scroll the carousel manually using the mouse.
- Clicking the checkbox repeatedly will toggle it on and off.
- Use the Advanced Search fields to enter the “search query” for the
Showcase Carousel:
NOTE: Abbreviated procedures for entering your search query are provided below. For detailed information on creating an Advanced Search query, refer to the RESEARCHit Search User Guide or VERSO Search User Guide, as appropriate.
- Enter the keyword(s) (search term) for the first term of your “search query” in the first Search Term text box.
- Select the desired matching option from the first drop-down menu; All of these words, Any of these words or This Exact Phrase.
- Choose the index you wish to search from the second drop-down
menu.
NOTE: Available search indexes are determined by your library.
- Select AND, OR or NOT from the third drop-down menu to set the logical function between the first search term text box and the second search term text box.
NOTE: As you enter the search query, the Total Records Found field refreshes to show the number of titles the search will return from your library’s catalog.
- If desired, add a second and third term to your search query using the procedures described in step 5, above.
- If desired, use the Sort Order menu to set the sort order for
search results:
NOTE: The selected Sort Order is always applied to your library’s Union catalog(s) and is applied to reference databases that support sorting. If a reference database does not support the selected sort order, results are displayed according to the default sort order.
- You may select to sort search results by Relevance, Title Ascending, Title Descending, Date Ascending, Date Descending, Author Ascending or Author Descending. The default sort order is Relevance.
- When you perform a search of an AG database by Title, and select Relevance as the sort order, titles that are an exact match to your search term are shown at the beginning of the search results list.
- Scroll to the Resources section. If necessary, click the Expand
Resources icon
to
expand the Resources section. Choose the Resources you wish to
include in your search:
NOTE: For additional information on resource selection, see the RESEARCHit Search User Guide or VERSO Search User Guide, as appropriate.
- Use the Resources checkboxes to select the database(s) you wish
to search.
- A checkmark indicates the associated database is selected (will be included in the search).
- An empty checkbox indicates the associated database is not selected (will not be included in the search).
- A solid checkbox for a source heading indicates that more than one but fewer than all individual resources under the heading have been selected.
- Clicking a checkbox repeatedly will toggle it on and off.
- To select an individual database, select the checkbox for the desired database.
- To select all resources within a source heading, select the checkbox for the desired source heading. The checkboxes for all resources under the source heading are selected automatically.
- Use the Resources checkboxes to select the database(s) you wish
to search.
- If desired, use the Search Qualifiers options to narrow the scope
of your search.
NOTE: For information on applying Search Qualifiers, see the RESEARCHit Search User Guide or VERSO Search User Guide, as appropriate. Search Qualifiers are applied to your library’s Union catalog and Z39.50 databases only. Search Qualifiers do not affect any other selected database.
- If desired, click the More Options link to configure additional
design elements for the Showcase Carousel component.
- Use the Font Color color picker to select the desired font color for the Showcase Carousel Title (see Using the Color Picker for details).
- Use the Background Color color picker to select the desired background color for the Showcase Carousel (see Using the Color Picker for details).
- Use the Flush in template checkbox to indicate whether or not the
page block should be flush with adjacent blocks on the page.
- A checkmark indicates the page block will be flush with adjacent page blocks.
- An empty checkbox indicates the page block will not be flush with other page blocks.
- Clicking the text box repeatedly will toggle it on and off.
