Chapter 8. CATALOGING FUNCTIONS

   

 


Editing an Item

You can edit an existing item record for a selected bibliographic record. You can access the Edit Item screen from a Brief Record Display or Full Record Display, or from an Item Management screen.

To edit an item:

  1. To access the Edit Item screen from a Brief Record Display or Full Record Display:
    • Perform a search for the title for which you wish to edit an item record (see the Search User Guide for details).
    • Click the Edit Item link for the desired item in the Location information section of a Brief Record Display or Full Record Display for the desired title.
      • The Edit Item screen displays. Proceed to step 3.
  2. To access the Edit Item screen from an Item Management screen:
    • Access the Item Management screen for the title containing the item record you wish to edit (see Managing Items for details).
    • Click the Edit Item button Edit Item Button for the desired item.
      • The Edit Item screen displays. Proceed to step 3.
  3. The Edit Item screen provides the following information:
    • A “book jacket” and brief bibliographic information for the title are shown at the top of the screen. Brief bibliographic information includes the Title, Author, and Publisher. If the item record is associated with the library under which you logged in, an Owned by my Library icon Owned By My Library Icon is shown at the top of the screen.
    • The Edit Item screen is pre-filled with the current item information, and Enumeration and Chronology for the item.
    • If desired, you may:
      • Click the Menu icon Menu Icon and select Go to Full Record to view the Full Record Display for the associated title (see Viewing a Full Record Display for details).
      • Click the Menu icon Menu Icon and select Edit Bib Record to edit the associated bibliographic record (see Editing a Bib Record for details).

  1. Enter, edit or delete item information, Enumeration and Chronology as desired (see Adding an Item for details).

    NOTE: If the Current Location and/or Permanent Location for the item is inactive, the message “Location inactive” displays below the Current Location and/or Permanent Location menu(s), as appropriate.

    NOTE: If the item status is currently Checked Out, In Transit, Global Item Transfer, Reserve for Checkout, Reserve In Transit, Cancel Reserve In Transit or Reserve Expired, the Current Location, Permanent Location and Status fields are "read only" and cannot be edited.

  2. When all desired information has been edited, click the Submit button to submit your changes to the item record.
    • The Edit Item screen closes and system returns to the Manage Items screen.
